Gene Colan, 1926-2011

Comic book artist Gene Colan died June 23 at the age of 84. Colan's comic book career began in 1944. He is probably best know for his work on Tomb of Dracula in the 1970's. I distinctly remember enjoying his art in the Batman titles in the 1980's. He was adept at drawing any genre, including romance comics.

Below is a scan of the original art for a really nice cover by Gene and Bill Everett for Tales to Astonish #88.

This is terrible news. Mr. Colan was a very talented artist and I hear a great guy. Another one gone from the greatest era of comic books. I still treasure my run of "Tomb of Dracula" and his "Tales to Astonish" Sub-Mariner series.
